SIAS Launches Inaugural
Asian Investment Conference and Exhibition
THE Securities Investors Association of Singapore (SIAS) is organising a two-day conference-cum-exhibition to educate investors at the Suntec convention centre on 18-19 July.
The inaugural Asian Investment Conference and Exhibition 2009 which is targeted at retail, mass affluent and high network investors both in Singapore and the region is the first to be organised on such a regional scale by SIAS.
It will featured many industry speakers from financial institutions as well as leading listed companies in Singapore and the region and expects to draw more than 25,000 visitors, who can have their financial health check assessed by financial planners and advisers or firm up on their financial literacy and acumen through investment games.
Participants will have the opportunity to network with the most influential investors in Singapore and around the region; meet local and regional public listed companies and governmental authorities as well as key decision-makers from the financial and investment markets.
Said Mr David Gerald, president of SIAS, "The current financial crisis has resulted in investors receiving mixed signals on the state of the global economy and the long-term health of their investments. Although a modest recovery has been underway since March, public opinion on its long-term sustainability remains deeply divided. The contradictory viewpoints have made it difficult for investors to make informed decisions on their investments."
"AICE 2009 is therefore a timely platform for investors to air their concerns and for experts to address them. It allows investors to learn before they invest about business fundamentals and long-term growth plans of good quality listed companies selected by SIAS and the Singapore Exchange (SGX) as well as various financial products available in the market."
"Investors should invest with knowledge. Without it, investing is just a gamble," said Mr Gerald.
Summing up one of the key objectives of the event, Roger Tan, vice president of SIAS Research noted, "Many investors' problems can be traced to greed and ignorance. We cannot eliminate greed, but we can try to get rid of ignorance through the seminars, talks and interactions between investors and the company representatives and investment professionals at AICE 2009."
Said SGX senior vice-president Andrew Ler, "We are pleased to support SIAS in its inaugural investment fair. Events like this contribute to investor education, which is an important part of SGX's commitment to developing the capital markets industry together with listed companies, brokers and issuers."
The main sponsors for the SIAS conference include the Singapore Exchange (SGX), Singapore Tourism Board, Citibank, CapitaLand, SingTel, SIA, SMRT and UOB KayHian.
AICE 2009 will be open to the public from 12pm to 9pm on 18 July, and from 10am to 6pm on 19 July. Admission is free. Visit www.asianinvestment.com.sg for more details.
