Singapore Compact CSR Summit is back!

Last year, the Inaugural International Singapore Compact CSR Summit was a great success with Mr Gan Kim Yong, Minister for Manpower as the keynote speaker and H.E. Par Ahlberger, Ambassador of Sweden to Singapore at the opening ceremony. Our summit attracted about 400 delegates from multinational corporations, small and medium enterprises, unions, government, academia and the public in general to the year’s theme "CSR: Strategy for Sustainability and Success".

The Singapore Compact CSR Summit is back this year on the same date and in the same month (6 & 7 October 2010) at Pan Pacific Hotel, Singapore.

Recent event at Copenhagen indicated the seriousness of the global crisis and urged companies to take more voluntary actions to stop climate change. Carbon Disclosure receives more attention from diverse industries than ever, and the ISO 26000 Standard for Social Responsibility is just on the brink of completion and release. It will be soon used by public and private organizations across the borders.

Having learnt from many global business cases, the challenge for entrepreneurs is to secure long-term profitability without jeopardising the interests of the community. For profit is more meaningful, and far more sustainable, when enterprises are able to demonstrate concern for the social issues of their communities.

We all know CSR is about businesses doing well and doing good. We now know that it is about the long term strategy of aligning business strategy and operations with universal values to achieve positive and sustainable outcomes for customers, suppliers, employees, shareholders, communities, other stakeholders and as well as the environment. We are also familiar with the triple bottomline towards the 3Ps of Profit (Economic), People (Social) and Planet (Environment).

The main question is, then, 'how' we implement the CSR strategies for different industries and 'how' we measure the impact on the business bottomline and the community. How will my business keep pace with ever changing energy challenge? How is my business relevant to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and what do I start with? How is the government's policy shaping along with the global impetus? How do I publish the first sustainability report and how do I minimise the time and cost in doing so?

To answer these questions and more, the 2nd Singapore Compact Summit will host many experts from different sectors locally and globally.
