Annual Reports are not enough, AGM still vital

Due to work commitment, i normally try to attend one or two AGMs in a year, selectively. So far for this year, I have attended one. The process of the AGM remains the same as per past years. The purpose of AGMs is to update shareholders on the company’s performance, particularly on the financial aspects, the direction that the company is going into and the expected results which the company hopes to achieve. Therefore, i think it remains important to have AGMs so that the shareholders are aware of their investment and also to be transparent to all. During AGMs, I got to hear the opinions from other shareholders and the responses from the senior management of the concerned companies. This is something that we are unable to read or see just from the Annual Report. I hope SIAS could highlight to the senior management that sometimes there are certain issues that need to be addressed instead of wanting to quickly brush them off and get over to the next agenda.
